The Notes & Finger Work

The Notes: This may be the most important thing on the bass guitar, the notes. If you don't know them, how can you play? The answer is simple. You can't! These are the all the notes on the bass: C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, and B. after the B, it goes back to C, and it will continue on the same way. The notes here above are the basic notes on the bass (the E at the bottom is the largest string on the bass). These are the only notes you should pay attention to right now. As you get better and feel like showing of a bit, that's when you learn the notes up he neck. Memorize where these notes are by putting your finger in between each fret, play it, and say it out loud. That's how I learned.
Frets: When you look at your guitar's neck, you see these shiny lines across it. You know what they're called? Frets. They are there so you can see where each note is. There are basses that don't have any frets on them. So if you buy one, you better know where your notes are! (Those basses are for the professionals.)
Fingerwork: Now, my way of using my fingers. You don't have to do it my way just so you know. I use three fingers on my right hand. My index finger, middle finger, and ring finger to play the strings. I use all 4 fingers on my left hand to press the strings on the neck. Like, my index finger will hit an F, my middle finger will hit the F#, my ring finger will hit the G, and my pinkie will hit the G#. When I play up the neck, I keep the same technique every 4 notes up. I think that my way is a good way to get started. I started that way, and it worked very well. Like I said, you don't have to do it my way. When you first start to play the bass, you actually should use only your index and middle finger to play the strings. And it doesn't really matter witch finger hits which note.
Slapbass Fingerwork: Slapbass you don't really need to worry about right now, but I'll tell you how to do it. Instead of using your fingers, you use your thumb. First, try it on the E string. Take your thumb, hit the string, and your thumb should be stopped by the A string. Don't play the A string along with it. If you watch videos of the professionals, you'll see all pf their fingers stretched out and flying around. All that is is just a waste of of technique, I believe. Really, your supposed to mainly make a fist, and your thumb just sticks out, like a thumbs up, and play with the thumb. I'm even still practicing slap bass.
